Research for Music Video

We will be finding out what type of things our audience would expect in a music video with a title "Out of the clouds", what things come to mind when you hear that title.

We will create a survey and send it out through FaceBook and other social networking sites for a good response and real life knowledge from who will be our Audience.

How a Music Video is made

1) The label, artists and management agree what to release.
2) The video commisioner makes a shortlist of possible directors
3) Video commisioner sends the track with a broad brief, ideas etc..
4) Directors provide outline treatments to the video commisioner.
5) A director is chosen and budget and deadlines are agreed.
6) The director develops the idea with storyboards and location photos.
7) An art director, wardrobe people and director of photography are enlisted, locations are booked, sets are designed.
8) The sets are built
9) All personnel are on sight for the shoot (usually one or two days)
10) Shooting complete, the film is transferred to the tape for editing
11) The editor produces a rough cut, which usually takes about 3 days
12) The label, artists and manager view and comment on the rough cut
13) Changes are agreed and made before visual effects are added.
14) Online finished video is passed to label for release to TV stations and airplay in advice of single release.

Music Video Theory

1) A Digi-Pack is a physical album with a front cover, inlay, CD and back cover. It gives the consumer more information about the artist, genre or music and songs etc.

2) Wearing T- Shirts with other band images and logos on is an example of how intertextuality is used in videos, Digi-Packs etc. For example Maroon 5s "Moves like Jagger" is for them singing as a band but has a sub text wich is aimed at Mick Jagger and his impact through music.

3) Intertextuality could be used in the marketing of a Digi-Pack by showing another media text within the album image. Here Kanye West is shown as being on the front of a Magazine in his album/single cover.



4) Goodwin said the 3 possible relationships between lyrics and visuals in a music video are "Illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics"

5) We would link our artist and genre in to showing/using an iconic image which is known through a certain genre. For example we could link and electric guaitar to Indie Rock



Chosen Artist and Song

After E-mailing alot of different artist asking whether we could create a music video for one of their songs we have come to a conclusion.


We have decided to create a music video for Nick Gardner, and up and coming unsigned artist and a youtube phenomenem. We are going to be using his song "Out of the Clouds" and aiming to make a unique video to go with this song.
